Johann and Mephistopheles by Kitsune64 Johann and Mephistopheles by Kitsune64
So, I had the demon Mephistopheles in my head. Took up residence, didn't pay rent, played the TV full blast at 3am. Continued this until I finally agreed to draw him... and then, he was very, VERY picky about his appearance! *sigh* So hard to please...

Anyways, this is the design I ended up with, shown here with his master, Johann Sabellicus, aka Georg Faust, aka Johann Faust. Meph seems to be developing a very interesting backstory with Faust (he's not at all happy with the way some people have portrayed him, nope, not at all!), so we'll see how long he keeps quiet before pestering me for another pic...

On the art side, this was some nice practice with my ink pens, with the grey tones added in Photoshop. Very fun pic to work on! :D

He wants it, he gets it. In the Diablo games, even if he doesn't want it, he gets it shoved down his throat. Or... he gets killed. OWNED. PWNED!! But yeah, I kinda went crazy there.

Oh. The games have been bested by more of their company's games, like World of WarCraft.
So it matters not. :)

a more detailed background. nice. i like how there's just a large chunk of one grey color for the grass. lends a simplicity to the pic. i like how Faust is just laying down sprawled out chillin. and the demon's just sittin above him with this, huh, expression. the hat with the feather in it's a nice touch. i also like how you can't see Faust's eyes. the demon does look a little odd with the gothis modern clothes compared to Faust's old fashioned ones. nice. i like that you did a pic of these two. haven't seen them represented much here.

Thanks! :D

As for who they are, they're based on the legend of Dr. Faust. The most famous versions of the story come from Marlow and Goethe (some highschool classes still read Marlow's play), all focusing around the character of Johann Faust. If you research him on Google or something like that, you can find out all about the historical figure of Faust. Anyways, the main idea of the stories is that Faust makes a deal with the devil that, if he is granted a demonic servent (Mephistopheles) and all its powers at his beck and call, then he will give his soul to the devil. The tale comes to different endings, depending on whose version you read, but it's the origin of the phrase "a Faustian deal."

So, yeah, these are my versions of the characters.

Fun compsition! The characters and the background merge very nicely, and yet the difference between background and foreground is obvious. Very nice. ^_^

Yeah, I had been a little worried about whether the background would overpower the characters. Good to know it works! Thanks for the comment.

Glad you like it! I'm not exactly known for doing a lot of backgrounds (kinda avoid them like Great Aunt Mildred on Thanksgiving), but I've been trying to improve with them. It's good to know this one succeeded!
